Title: Empowering Voices: Speech Contest at Graduate College M.B. Din
On the day of Pakistan’s independence, the streets echoed not just with celebrations but with stories of unimaginable sacrifice. Our mothers braved unspeakable hardships, enduring violence and cutting through hostile routes to safeguard their families. Immigrants faced relentless scorn, curses, and hostility from those who should have been allies, yet they persisted, driven by hope for a free homeland.
Today, as we celebrate independence, the question arises: what has become of that hard-fought freedom? The elites and policymakers, who once promised justice, equality, and progress, now flaunt their power while the common citizen struggles to survive. The dreams of our forefathers, of dignity and opportunity for all, seem to have been traded for personal gain, political convenience, and institutional complacency.
During my performance, I spoke these truths with conviction, exposing the gaps between the sacrifices of our past and the failures of our present. The administration, unable to confront the harsh reality, ordered my speech to be stopped—proof that speaking truth to power remains as risky today as it was in the days of our independence struggle.
This event serves as a stark reminder: freedom is more than a celebration; it is a responsibility. A responsibility that the powerful still evade, while ordinary people continue to carry the weight of history on their shoulders.
